2010 Kick Ranch Petite Sirah
A blend of 96% Petite Sirah and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is the usual powerhouse that we have always known. Fans of our Kick Ranch Petite will not be disappointed. The color of this wine is deep purple, almost black. Aromas of bacon fat and blackberry pie coexist beautifully with white pepper, burnt sugar and tar. The texture of this wine is lush, but has enough muscle to stand up to the richness. Present are mocha and sweet vanilla in cahoots with fruit flavors of huckleberries and plums, all leading to a finish of cassis, cedar and spice. We have loved this Petite since we crushed the first grape, and the love affair continues.

Saturated bright ruby. Urgent aromas of crushed blackberry, blueberry, licorice and mocha accented by black pepper. Sweet, lush and pliant, with a captivating creaminess to its dark berry and dark chocolate flavors. Les Behrens noted that this vineyard used to be planted to cabernet but that the vines were rebudded over to petite sirah in 2001 and 2002. He still adds a bit of cabernet sauvignon to give focus and structure to the petite sirah. Finishes with substantial, building ripe tannins that coat the entire palate and teeth. Just a tad brutish today but the wine boasts terrific fruit intensity and should develop in bottle for a decade or two.

Inky and dark, with a mouthful of burly tannins, this shows plenty of charm, offering aromatic and expressive notes of espresso, cedar, blackberry, huckleberry and fresh nutmeg. The finish features plenty of tannins to chew on. Drink now through 2018.
